“You look happy, but you don’t feel happy. That’s what depression does to you.”
Leo Club of University of Moratuwa with the collaboration of Centennial Leo Club of Richmond College commenced the project “Slay the Dread” with the aim of identifying the mental health condition of the students and employees and to show the path to get off from those psychological problems.
As the first step of this project, we conducted research. We created a questionnaire and shared it through social media. Through the viewpoints of 560 respondents, we found that 24% of people among them are suffering from depression due to various reasons. Data analysis has shown that charity work is a good solution to reduce depression. As the second step of this project, we conducted a webinar. It was held via zoom on the 23rd of January 2021 from 6.00 p.m onwards. Senior psychological counsellor, Mrs Esharma Kariyawarna and personal development trainer and motivational speaker, Mrs Nadeepa Ranasinghe participated as guest speakers of the event.
They excellently peached the session dedicating their valuable time. There was a discussion on depression, the relationship between charity and depression together with a motivational discussion.
This webinar was concluded successfully with the participation of nearly 100 participants. We got much amazing feedback from them admiring our effort. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who helped us to make this project a success.
