2003
22 years back a group of undergraduates from University of Moratuwa joined their hands to lay the foundation for the Leo Club of University of Moratuwa. In 2003 with the help of Lion Lester Aponso, District Chairman for Leo’s of Leo District 306A (2002/2003) and Leo Shyana Wijayaratne, District President of Leo District 306A (2002/2003) and also with the permission of university authority, Leo Club of University of Moratuwa was established in 23rd July 2003, as the SECOND university-based Leo Club in Sri Lanka and as the FIRST university based Leo club in Leo District 306A. Lions Club of Dehiwala North, a leading Lions Club in District 306A, provided the sponsorship for the club. On behalf of the university authority, Dr. Saman Thilakasiri took the challenge of the Patron and Mr. Kithsiri Samarasinghe took the responsibility of Senior Treasurer. The installation ceremony organized by the parents Lions Club took place on the 27th of June 2003 at Lions Activity Center, Moratuwa. 38 Engineering undergraduates were installed as Charter Members of Leo Club of University of Moratuwa on that day. Under the presidency of Leo Nadun Gunawadena and the guidance of uncle Ravi (Lion Ravi Rajapathirana – Leo Advisor) and the help of DP Leo Shehan the club completed its first Leostic year, being the runner-up for the Most outstanding new LEO club of the district in 25th Annual Leo Conference. Also, the project “Api Akurata Meli Nowemu” and “Leo Paduru Sajjaya” took the attention of whole Leo District.
2004/2005
In Leostic year 2004/2005, the club was led by Leo Mahesh Prasanna Abeywickrama. Unfortunately, he left us at an unexpected moment. Upon his decease, Leo Chatura Gunawardane took the lead of the club and he was able to bring it to a greater height. By this time Leo District 306A was divided into two districts as A1 and A2. With that Leo Club of University of Moratuwa was shifted to district 306A2.
2005/2006
The club was re-born with the great leadership of Leo Tharanga Gunasekara (2005/2006). Year 2006 was a remarkable milestone in the history of UoM Leos, as the club got the opportunity to win the award “The Most Outstanding Leo Club of Leo district 306A2” for the first time in the inaugural District Conference of Leo district 306A2 held on July 2006 with 13 project awards, 6 individual awards and 5 district and club awards.
2006/2007
Leo club of the University of Moratuwa was again awarded as the Most Outstanding Leo Club of the District 306 A2 and the victory was confirmed with the 18 awards achieved at the 2nd district conference, under the leadership of Leo Buddhi Hettiarachchi. At the same time, Leo Tharanga Gunasekar was awarded the Leo of the Year for the year 2006/2007.
2007/2008
In the Leoistic year 2007/2008 under the presidency of Leo Namal Karunarathne, the club was again awarded as the Most Outstanding Leo Club in the Leo district 306A2 for the 3rd consecutive time at the 3rd annual district conference. We achieved 12 project awards, 7 individual awards, and 2 district and club awards.
2008/2009
Continuing the Excellency, for the 4th consecutive time “Most Outstanding Leo Club of the Leo District 306 A2” title was won by UoMLeos, at the year-end conference. Further, Leo Isuru Senadeera, an excellent leader produced by the club, was awarded as the Leo of the year for the leostic year 2008/2009.
2010/2011
In the year 2011 Leo Club of the University of Moratuwa was awarded as the 2nd runner-up of the Leo District contest at the Leo District Conference held at Hotel Galadari, under the leadership of Leo Damith Amarakon.
2011/2012
UoM Leos were Lucky to produce the first-ever Leo District president to the Leo District 306 A2, from their own club this year. And also they were blessed with the award of “Most Outstanding Leo Club of the Leo Multiple District 306 – Sri Lanka”, under the Leadership of Leo Naveen Thameera, from PMDP Leo Thiruparan Siwapathasudaram.
2012/2013
Leo Club of the University of Moratuwa Celebrated its 10th anniversary, recalling their journey of pride and remarkable. This year too, the award for the Most Outstanding Leo Club, of the Leo district 306 A2, was won by the Leo Club of the University of Moratuwa under the leadership of Leo Chathuranga Gunasekara.
2013/2014
We awarded as Most Outstanding Leo Club of Sri Lanka for the excellent service provided toward the society and for the excessive support given to the Leo District 306 A2, throughout the Leostic year 2013/2014, with the leadership of Mr. Ajith Ranaweera.
2014/2015
We were awarded as the winner of the Leo district contest, and 1st runner-up of Most Outstanding Leo Club of the Leo District 306 A2 for the excellent service provided towards the society and for the excessive support given to the Leo district 306 A2, throughout the Leostic year 2014/15, with the leadership of Leo Shehan Madushanka.
2015/2016
Leo Club of the University of Moratuwa awarded as the “Most Outstanding Leo Club of the Leo Multiple District 306 – Sri Lanka”, Under the Leadership of Leo Ivan Udakara from PMDP Leo Dumidu Jayakody.
2016/2017
UoM Leos were awarded for being the “Most Outstanding University Leo club of the Leo Multiple District 306 – Sri Lanka”, Under the Leadership of Leo Shehan Akmeemana, from PMDP Leo Rajitha Abeygunasekara.
2017/2018
In the Leostic year 2017/2018, the Leo Club of the University of Moratuwa achieved a lot under the leadership of Leo Buddhi Isurujith, from PMDP Leo Pramod Wimalatunga and was able to mark the effort put on throughout that year as a success by winning the title of the “Most Outstanding Leo Club of the Leo Multiple District 306 – Sri Lanka” with three other club awards, five individual awards and fifteen more project awards in the Multiple District 306. Moreover, in Leo District 306 A2, the club ensured its excellence by bringing seven club awards, thirteen individual awards, and thirty project awards back to the University of Moratuwa. Most importantly, the Leo Club of the University of Moratuwa was awarded as the Best IT Enabled Leo Club of Sri Lanka and the Best Administered Leo Club of Sri Lanka.
2018/2019
In the Leoistic year 2018/2019 Leo Club of University of Moratuwa was able to make a successful giant step in its journey under the great guidance of Leo Kasun Ramanayaka. Its excellency was shown by achieving four club awards, two individual awards and six project awards within Multiple District 306, Sri Lanka. The value of those achievements became more remarkable because of being Most Outstanding Leo Club of Sri Lanka for the fifth time as well as being the Most Outstanding University/Institute based (omega) Leo Club within multiple district. Additionally when considering Leo district 306A2 in year 2018/2019, Leo Club of University of Moratuwa was the Most Outstanding Leo Club with five other club awards, eleven individual awards and number of project awards as well.
2019/2020
The Leoistic year 2019/2020 was another remarkable year for the Leo Club of University of Moratuwa with its outstanding achievements under the leadership of Leo Nethmini Kolambage. As a successful result of the hard work carried throughout the year, UoM Leos were able to become the Most Outstanding University/Institute based (omega) Leo Club with the achievement of five individual awards as well as eight awards for the projects within Multiple District- 306. In addition, we achieved more awards including six club awards, five individual awards and eighteen project awards in District 306A2 at the A2CON’20 marking the effort during year 2019/20.
2020/2021
Leoistic year 2020/2021 was a remarkable period for Leo Club of University of Moratuwa, marked by outstanding achievements at the Leo Multiple District Awards. The club was recognized as the Most Outstanding Leo Club in Sri Lanka and also secured the title of Most Outstanding University/Institute Based Omega Leo Club, while being awarded Best Administered Leo Club and Best IT Enabled Leo Club in Sri Lanka. Leadership excellence was celebrated as well, with Leo Sachintha Kapuge honored as the Most Outstanding Club President in Sri Lanka and the club’s Secretary and Treasurer recognized as the Most Outstanding in their respective roles. These accomplishments reflected the club’s unwavering commitment to service, effective administration and strong leadership throughout the year.
2021/2022
Leoistic year 2021/2022 marked a golden era for Leo Club of University of Moratuwa. At the Multiple District Awards, the club rose to the very top, being crowned as the Most Outstanding Leo Club in Sri Lanka. Alongside this prestigious honor, the club also triumphed as the Most Outstanding University/Institute Based Omega Leo Club in Sri Lanka, while securing the titles of Best Administered Leo Club and Best IT Enabled Leo Club in Sri Lanka. Leadership excellence shone brightly as well, with Leo Hiran Keshara being recognized as the Most Outstanding Club President in Sri Lanka, while the club’s Secretary, Treasurer, and Leo Advisor proudly claimed the awards for the Most Outstanding in their respective roles. Together, these accomplishments showcased the club’s strength in both teamwork and leadership, establishing a legacy of service and achievement.
2022/2023
In the Leoistic year 2022/2023, Leo Club of University of Moratuwa achieved remarkable milestones under the leadership of Club President Leo Yasath Dissanayake. At the District Conference of Leo District 306 A2, the club proudly secured the 2nd Place for Most Outstanding Leo Club of the Year, along with being recognized as the 1st Runner Up for Most Outstanding University/Institute Based Omega Leo Club and the 1st Runner Up for Best Administered Leo Club of the Year and the 2nd Place for Best IT Enabled Leo Club of the Year. These accolades stand as a testament to the club’s dedication to excellence, effective administration and impactful service throughout the year.
2023/2024
Leoistic year 2023/2024 was a truly memorable one for Leo Club of University of Moratuwa under the inspiring leadership of Leo Hasitha Viduranga. The club reached new heights of excellence, securing the prestigious titles of Most Outstanding Leo Club in Sri Lanka and Most Outstanding University/Institute Based Omega Leo Club in Sri Lanka at the Multiple District level. Alongside these major titles, UoM Leos earned recognition through the Best Administered Leo Club in Sri Lanka and Best IT-Enabled Leo Club in Sri Lanka distinctions. In addition, the dedication of our members was honoured with several individual awards, including the Most Outstanding Club President in Sri Lanka. These achievements collectively showcased the exceptional passion, teamwork and leadership of UoM Leos throughout the year.
2024/2025
In the Leoistic year 2024/2025, Leo Club of University of Moratuwa continued its legacy of excellence under the remarkable guidance of Leo Darshika Prabhashwara. The club once again brought glory to the university by being awarded as the Most Outstanding University/Institute Based Omega Leo Club in Sri Lanka. UoM Leos further secured top recognitions, including 1st Runner Up for Best Administered Leo Club in Sri Lanka and 1st Runner Up for Most Outstanding Leo Club in Sri Lanka at the Multiple District Conference. Adding to this proud journey, the club celebrated individual excellence, with awards including the Most Outstanding Club Secretary in Sri Lanka and recognition as the Most Outstanding Digital Transformation Champion in Sri Lanka. The achievements of 2024/25 reflect the club’s unwavering commitment to service, innovation and leadership.
